The Advertisers Association of Nigeria (ADVAN) has been recognised internationally as a recipient of the WFA President’s Award, presented by the World Federation of Advertisers during Global Marketer Week in Stockholm.
The recognition places ADVAN among a select group of industry associations acknowledged for delivering measurable impact within the marketing ecosystem while contributing to broader societal progress.
A Competitive Global Selection Process
Established in 2010, the WFA President’s Awards honour national marketing bodies whose initiatives advance the interests of advertisers and promote responsible industry practices.
This year’s awards followed a rigorous selection process, with 38 submissions from across the WFA’s global network. Entries were assessed based on demonstrable impact and the potential for their initiatives to be adapted across different markets.
ADVAN’s inclusion in this group signals that its work is not only relevant locally but also applicable on a global scale.
Project Freedom: Addressing Regulatory Challenges
At the centre of this recognition is Project Freedom, ADVAN’s advocacy initiative focused on addressing the impact of non–data-driven regulations on businesses in Nigeria and across Africa.
The initiative advocates for a more balanced regulatory environment, one that is grounded in data, aligned with economic realities, and capable of supporting sustainable business growth.
In many emerging markets, regulatory uncertainty can slow innovation and limit expansion. Project Freedom directly engages this challenge by promoting evidence-based policymaking and reinforcing the importance of the constitutional right to freedom of commerce.

Shifting the Industry Approach to Regulation
Through Project Freedom, ADVAN has taken a more proactive role in engaging regulators, policymakers, and other stakeholders.
Rather than responding reactively to policy changes, the association is helping to shape conversations around fair, transparent, and practical regulation. This reflects a broader shift within the industry, from confrontation to collaboration.
The approach emphasizes structured dialogue, with the goal of creating regulatory frameworks that both protect consumers and enable innovation.
Rising Influence of African Marketing Institutions
ADVAN’s recognition also highlights the growing influence of African marketing bodies in shaping global industry conversations.
It demonstrates that local advocacy, when supported by data and clear strategic direction, can extend beyond national borders and contribute meaningfully to international discourse.
This is particularly significant at a time when global marketing conversations are increasingly focused on regulation, accountability, and sustainability.
Strengthening Standards and Industry Accountability
The award further reinforces ADVAN’s ongoing commitment to strengthening self-regulation within Nigeria’s marketing industry.
By promoting accountability and aligning local practices with global standards, the association continues to position itself as a key driver of responsible marketing.

A Signal for the Future
As the marketing landscape becomes more complex and regulation continues to evolve, ADVAN’s recognition by the World Federation of Advertisers signals a strong endorsement of its direction.
It underscores the importance of industry bodies that not only represent marketers but actively shape the environments in which businesses operate.
In that context, Project Freedom stands as a clear example of how advocacy, when strategically executed, can deliver both local impact and global recognition.
